The focus of this concert will be the fusion and collusion between traditional and contemporary music. Zhao Taisheng, the recipient of Artist of the Year (Music) at the Hong Kong Arts Development Awards in 2024, will engage in a dialogue with Zhang Ximin, the ‘representative inheritor’ of Huayin Lao Qiang, and other Huayin Lao Qiang artists through music and illustrate the diversity and uniqueness of Chinese traditional music. Huayin Lao Qiang, also known as ‘the living fossil of ancient Chinese music’ and ‘ancient Chinese rock’n roll’, is a tradition of rousing, rhythmic, lusty folk singing and narration and was recognised as one of the first entries in the National Intangible Cultural Heritage List in 2006.
